A lesson – is about fun, cooperation and practical skills. A lesson is about positive experience that leaves a pleasant aftertaste for a long time or, perhaps, even forever. This is exactly how the English teacher from the 'Piece Of Cake' club view teaching. On March 19 they held The USA Day at the club, where children enjoyed the atmosphere of this country to the fullest – getting to know its geography, history, culture, sports, entertainment, cuisine etc.

Loriann Matchak, a missionary from the US and a frequent guest at the club, told the kids about the US flag, its stars and stripes, as well as sang the US national anthem.

Children also listen to the ‘Star-spangled banner’ by Whitney Houston – a video from 1991, where she sang the anthem before Superball. Miss Vikky tried to sing along :)

It was very interesting to compare the size of Ukraine to the size of the USA. Texas, for example, is only a bit smaller than Ukraine itself.

Children watched a few videos about the USA, learned info about the States, their climate, symbols and peculiarities. The most fun video to watch was about Disney Land!

What everyone would probably remember most from the class that day – is baseball! This national American sport was introduced to children by the baseball coach Andrey Alexeev.  Helmets, bets, balls and gloves filled the room and the kids just loved it! Everyone had a chance to try on the gear, throw and catch the ball, wave the bat – do it all like a real baseball player. Baseball was a new game to most of the kids, but some children at the club had already practiced it with Andrey in Irpin.

Of course there were also presents! The Statue of Liberty Crowns by an artist Veronika Chepel, looked beautifully on the children and there became twelve statues instead of just one.

Loriann made chocolate chip cookies – a traditional American treat – and kids had them with milk. They finished them all!

See you at our next club meeting!
